Your house is lovely and we all had a relaxing and enjoyable week. I think I can safely say that in all the years of hiring holiday accommodation in France we have not stayed in such a well appointed and well equipped property. An exceptionally hot week - the pool was a delightfully refreshing respite from the heat. Highlights were: cycling to Chateau de Gavaudun - fairly hilly route to Salles - we returned the longer way through the woods to the east- a more gentle climb and lovely road back to the cottage. The Marche de Soiree at Salles on Wednesday evening - if you go, take your own plates, cutlery and glasses. We were treated to the local karaoke singers!! A lovely meal in Monflanquin at the Prince Noir, and a midnight swim back at chez nous. Thank you for a fabulous week in this homely house were there is everything you need.
We have had a great week here visiting our daughter Eliza who is studying French in Montpellier. Lisa et al very helpful and the home has provided us with much fun and relaxation. Also great for walking into town and going on excursions. Thank you!
Thank you so much for a wonderfully relaxing stay at your ‘Loft’. We have stayed here many times before under previous ownership, but we must say that you have moved it up several notches! The attention to detail is second to none; from the luxurious ‘The White Company’ products to all the goodies in the fridge and cupboards - very much appreciated. The terrace, garden and pool are just so peaceful that we haven’t ventured far! Most of all thank you for being there and for your wonderful company. We hope there will be many more visits to come. We have had the most wonderful holiday in your beautiful house. The pool was a sanctuary in the heat. The house is perfect for exploring this lovely part of the south of France. Can we come back, please..?
Belle demeure. Une jolie demeure avec jardins, exceptionnellement paisible et privée. Belle piscine. Tous les équipements. Saint-Alvère est également un beau village.
I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Rusty Shears with friends. The hosts Kirstie and Russell have thought of everything and are on hand if you need anything at all. Beautiful decor, spacious living area and bedrooms. Comfortable beds and powerful showers. The patio and outdoor area is also lovely with great views across surrounding land. The gite is in a lovely peaceful location, but close to historic towns if you like to explore. We also went on a fantastic local wine tasting experience recommended by Russell.
This is my second visit to the beautiful ‘Rusty Shears gite’ hosted by Kirstie and Russell. From the outset our stay was just perfect. We were made very welcome and even had welcome drinks upon arrival. This was a special visit for my mums birthday and Kirstie even baked a cake, which was absolutely delicious. The gite is immaculately presented and the interior is simply gorgeous, with sumptuous cushions, uniquely bespoke painted furniture and house plants that compliment the gite’s luxurious eclectic style. The outside space is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine and listening to the nature that surrounds the outside space. They have thought of everything; an outside eating area, complete with overhead sails to stay in the shade, corner sofa area complete with parasol to stay in or out of the shade, a bbq area with small outside prep area, hot tub and even 4 sun loungers. The location is set in the countryside so expect to drive or cycle to the local vineyards and restaurants but rest assured Kirstie and Russell can recommend plenty of places of interest and even arrange cycle hire or restaurant bookings if preferred. All in all a really tranquil long weekend away that offered us plenty of tasty local food, vineyard visits, rest and relaxation in the sunshine. If you’re an animal lover then you’ll also appreciate Kirstie’s love of animals too and if you’re lucky you’ll get to taste a freshly laid egg from ’Cluckingham palace!’ A truly wonderful space and warm welcome that will encourage you to return. A gem of a holiday find - we will definitely be going back soon! Thank you Kirstie and Russell for your hospitality during our stay at Rusty Shears gite and for making great memories!
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful and above all cozy villa. Very tastefully and comfortably furnished. The beautiful vintage cuisine is a highlight. The bathrooms were also very stylish and spacious. The large garden on several floors is dreamy. Especially when the many flowers bloom. The mountain views were magnificent and an absolute haven of peace compared to noisy and busy city life at home. The manager Sophie is a very enjoyable and friendly person! Very accommodating and always available. Thank you so much! We will be back!!!
Nous avons passé une semaine fabuleuse dans la propriété et nous n'aurions pas pu rêver d'un meilleur lieu ou d'une hôtesse plus conviviale, sympathique et serviable. Ce fut un plaisir de vous rencontrer et je ne peux que contempler et admirer votre dévouement, votre détermination et votre courage dans la création de la propriété de vos rêves, ce qui est ressorti si clairement lors de notre conversation le dernier matin avant notre départ. Ce furent de bonnes vacances... appréciées de tous... mais sans aucun doute le lieu et l'hôtesse ont été les vedettes du spectacle et nous sommes très heureux d'avoir eu l'opportunité de passer du temps avec vous et de découvrir la région. J'espère qu'à un moment donné nous pourrons revenir, mais en attendant, restez en contact et bonne chance pour tout !
What a fantastic week! The house is absolutely beautiful and very well stocked, had everything we needed, particularly the outdoor area - BBQ every night! The staff could not be more helpful and we felt instantly welcome. We are going to book for next year when we get home!

C'est dans un cadre parfait, unique et bien placé pour que les visiteurs puissent profiter des délices de la campagne de la Dordogne.
La maison était très grande pour notre couple mais nous avons apprécié l'espace dans la maison et autour. La piscine est tout simplement parfaite avec ses 16m on peut vraiment faire un peu d'exercice après avoir trop mangé et trop bu. Ce furent des vacances très reposantes et une région agréable à découvrir.
Charming house in the most picturesque hill top village that has been lovingly restored with air con and a pool to help you cool off in the heat. The surrounding area has lots to offer and you can find great food either in the village or in Uzes not too far away.

We’ve just come back from a wonderful stay at Manoir Coutenson. The spacious and well maintained accommodation met the needs of our party of 15 perfectly, ranging from ages 1 to 85. The accommodation was even nicer than shown in the photos, as the sitting room had been refurbished. We particularly loved the on site activities (table tennis, pétanque, pool etc) and the sitting area by the pool! There were many thoughtful touches, including toys for younger children, board games and a well stocked kitchen. The site managers were on hand to help with any queries and advise on places to visit. The Manoir is well located close to Casteljaloux for supermarket, shops, market etc and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. We’d certainly love to stay here again!
We had an amazing stay here in Narbonne! The photos you see are beautiful but the house is even better in person. It was so comfortable, beautiful decor, thoughtful touches (like throw blankets, baskets for market, plenty of closet space with extra hangers, extensive kitchen equipment, more...), gorgeous lighting and cozy/high quality bedding (so important when travelling). We felt so at home and enjoyed our down time while in the house! The sunroom was our sanctuary during our stay... our reading room while there... the natural light is so perfect with the back sliding window open and the breeze coming in! Heaven!
Nous avons passé un séjour chaleureux chez Eva à Sérignan. Très belle villa, joliment située dans un quartier calme. La piscine privée était vraiment un régal ! Eva a été très réactive à nos questions et a été facile à contacter. Nous pouvons certainement recommander son logement et nous n'hésiterons pas à y retourner si nous sommes de nouveau dans la région.
A more tranquil spot in France you will not find. The house has 360-degree views across stunning French countryside that rolls and undulates towards a backdrop of the Pyrenees. It feels like you're a million miles from the stresses and strains of modern life, another world and yet within 20 minutes drive you can be in a huge supermarket that will cater for all your needs. The house itself is incredibly comfortable, with all mod cons. It sleeps 14 people in great comfort, including in two well-appointed cottages in the grounds. And yet it retains its cosy feel. Some days we lazed by the pool and ate our meals on one of the terraces, other days – when it was cooler - we lit the fire and settled in. It's genuinely as comfy inside as it is outside, which is not always the case in French holiday lets. Our young children were in heaven. When not swimming or playing tennis, they roamed the five acres of immaculately kept grounds, building camps, rowing on the small lake. There's snooker croquet and table tennis too, if it's wet. And then of course there is the party room. Set well away from the grown-up bedrooms, the party room has a bar, DJ–quality speaker system and a proper disco – glitter ball, lights and all. Incredible fun. You really won't want to leave the château and grounds at all – it's a self-contained little hill-top world - but if you do have itchy feet then there are lots of walks nearby, or you can visit one of the many beautiful French towns nearby (Mirepoix market is a must). I cannot wait to return.
Nous avons passé de merveilleuses vacances à la villa. La villa est idéale, spacieuse et joliment décorée. Les enfants ont adoré la piscine et la table de ping-pong ! C'est une base idéale pour visiter la région. Le marché de Pézenas est à ne pas manquer. Nous avons navigué sur bateau, monté des chevaux, loué des vélos à Marseillan et vu des flamants roses ! We highly recommend Maison Four à Chaux, we had a great holiday in this amazing property which was clean, very comfortable and very spacious inside and out. Lovely large heated pool and an excellent games barn which included skittles alley and table tennis. We were greeted by Yvonne who was great and very knowledgeable of the local area and was easily contactable (as were the owners) if there was any issues (which there weren't). We would definitely recommend Maison Four à Chaux.
My extended family and I very much enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. The house itself is a magnificent old stone building, which has been decorated in a very elegant manner. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and we very much appreciated the coffee machine. Younger family members enjoyed the pool and ping pong table. Being an old house, it does have some quirks, but these are very much outweighed by the charm and grandeur of the rooms and outdoor areas. The location is scenic and peaceful - but within reasonable driving distance of area attractions such as Lascaux and villages along the Dordogne. The local village is lovely, with a handy small supermarket, great boulangerie and several restaurants. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Séjour extra dans un cadre idyllique! Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour d'une semaine en famille. Les hôtes sont charmants et très disponibles. La maison est très agréable à vivre et la literie excellente! La piscine est superbe, le pool house également... en clair, une semaine parfaite!
